High Risk + Low Reward = What?
It equals stupid is what that equals! B/c I can't turn my brain off things like this rule I made for myself come out.
I was crossing a big intersection a couple of days ago and I'm doing about 45 or 50 mph. As I'm about to cross straight through the intersection a car coming from the opposite direction tries to take a left in front of me. Of course I have to hit my brakes to avoid hitting him Here's where I get my rule. What is the reward for this driver? He gains a maximum of 90 seconds b/c he didn't have to wait for a light. For some that might be a high reward but in my book that is a low reward. Now the risk is what? I could smack his little car with by big SUV and send him spinning in a tree or say another car. That's a pretty big risk.
So out of that I tell myself to remember that. Taking high risks for low rewards is dumb. But don't misread me here. I'm all about taking risk, b/c I'm a firm believer that if we don't take risk then we're not going to be rewarded, but for high risk situations, make sure the reward is high too. This might sound like common sense but it definitely helps me make better decision when I put words to this type of thinking.
