Cloverfield

I saw the movie Cloverfield this past weekend. It was amazing! So intense! It was great! It's from the same guy who made the TV show Lost, J.J. Abrams. The less I tell you, the better.

"Don't Believe Everything You Read On The Internet!"

You'd think we'd have learned this by now.

How many of you have received the Barak Obama email claiming that Obama is actually a Muslim who won't say the pledge, turns his back to the flag, and was sworn into office on the Koran?

For the record, I'm not a fan of Obama's political positions. However... Seriously?! Do you believe everything you read on the internet? Is the show 24 a reality? No, it's not.

When I first received this email I thought, "Wow! That's amazing!" And for a second I thought it was true. Then I had to remind myself...
1. Anything that is sent via email and that is forwarded with 10,000 email addresses attached to it is most likely fabricated.
2. If it smells like a rumor, walks like a rumor, and sounds like a rumor then...

Tonight on the way home I'm listening to a political talk show on the radio and an interviewer asks Obama about these rumors and Obama laughs in response and goes on to say that he wasn't sworn in on the Koran but was sworn in on the Bible, and that he is actually a member of the Church of Christ denomination and is a Christian.

Can I prove that he really is a Christian? No.
Can I prove that he says the pledge of allegiance? No.
Can I prove that he was sworn in on the Bible? No.

But am I going to take the word of a forwarded email that has too many >>>>>>>>s on it over the man's word? No.

I try really hard not to use my blog to complain, but I know a ton of people who have gotten this and other bogus emails and I wanted to encourage my readers to be less gullible, especially of things on the internet. As another friend of mine replied as she received the Obama email, "I’m not one to support a candidate, but I do think the truth should be spread and not fallacies."

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Shot Glasses For Jesus

Here's a link to a news story about a church in North Carolina that is trying to reach people by handing out shot glasses that say "Give us a shot!" to people in bars.

Think that's too far?

Truth and Light

I was given the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to speak at my dad's church East Bayou Baptist back home in Lafayette, LA. The crowd was around 1,400 people and I spoke on Genesis 3:11 and how we can easily live our entire lives based on things that are totally untrue and how we need to expose those things and base our lives on truth and light. Below is video. Also I have a link to play and download the mp3 below that.

Hit play to listen.

Right click here and "save link as" to download the MP3 and throw it on your ipod.

Here's a couple of sermons from the last 2 times I had the opportunity to speak.

Life Support

Where do I begin? A group of 20 or so college and high school kids from East Bayou Baptist Church got together and put on a show in Jonesville, LA for all of their high school aged students where basically we performed skits, songs, interpretive dance, and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff to share the message of Jesus Christ. We rehearsed and prepped for 3 months, built lights, wrote skits, made videos, designed flyers (as seen below), launched a website, made t-shirts and just did everything we could to promote this event. Also we sent CDs to all the local churches asking them to show up and support us and included in the CD was this video.

Oh, and there are outtakes at the end.

Here's a list of who all I can remember is in this video:
Loren Carriere, Justin Head, Tim Walker, Jessica Head (then Evans), Nick Hill, Matt Williams, Michelle Evans, Rebecca Williams (then Carriere), Denise Evans and Brad Carlin.

Alright Then 1!

The story behind this pic is actually funny. Loren, Nick, Brad, Justin and I literally just walked into a hospital and asked if we could use their stuff to take a pic. We told them what we wanted to use it for and we eventually talked to the hospital's chaplain who got us hooked up with a nurse upstairs who had a few minutes to help us get set up to take this photo. Nick, Loren, Brad, Justin and Tim are the ones in the photo. The nurse let us use all those clothes, masks and bandages. Crazy huh?

LSU 38 - Ohio State 24 SEC Representing!

Last night was the BCS College Football Championship (basically the superbowl for college football). And I have to admit, last night I was cheering for the Tigers. As most of you know, I'm not a supporter of the Tigers (1. B/c I graduated from their in-state rival school. 2. The only thing that LSU has is a football team while my alma mater beats LSU in every academic except pre-law) There are more reasons I'm not an LSU fan, but I won't go into those b/c this post is not about putting LSU down, but giving them props. B/c LSU represented the SEC (South Eastern Conference) I was cheering for them.

Last year was practically the same thing. Univ of Florida... A team I don't support... but is in the SEC... last year they played Ohio State and practically the same thing happened in last year's game that happened in this year's game.

Ohio State scored very early and the SEC team looks like they're gonna get whooped. But LSU last night, just like Florida last year, turned it around quick and made Ohio State chase them the rest of the game.

Thanks to LSU for proving once again that there's no conference in college football like the SEC.
