Church Was Rocking Today

I'm realizing really quickly the things at East Bayou that I'm going to miss most whenever I move to DFW.

Probably the thing I'll miss the most is just being Mike Walker's son. While I don't want to take anything I haven't earned on my own, just b/c I'm a preacher's kid, I will definitely miss being in his inner circle. Getting to meet with him in between services and talk about what we can do better for the next service and just talking about church stuff has been a blast.

And I'll miss getting to work with Ward. Ward, our music pastor, is amazing. I love just watching him sing his heart out. Not only does he have a heart and passion that is inspiring, but he also has the musci ability to ummm.... what we call.... Rock It Out! The people he uses to make up the band all are just good. From musicians to vocalists, the music here rocks! I'll miss it a ton.

Today we did a song called "Shipwreck" by a band called Starfield. It's a slow piano driven song that our drummer Bryan Pitre did. Here's the lyrics for the first part of the song. They're awesome!

"I built a fortress, with a hundred thousand faces,
I'll keep it safe, with a hundred thousand more.
But these masks are wearing thin, as You draw me in.

I spent my time on the empty and the fleeting.
I spent my life on much less than what I'd dreamed.
But I'm reaching out to You, to make me new.

'Cause I am just a beggar, here at Your door.
I am just a shipwreck here on Your shore.
I come empty handed, ready to see,
Your life in me changing who I've been,
To who I need to be.
"

Do you want to be counted wise?

"Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here's what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It's the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts."

James 3:13 - MSG

Here's my interpretation...

Live Well (take care of yourself).
Live Wisley (don't do anything stupid).
Live Humbly (don't make it about you).
And for goodness sake, quit TELLING people how you live, and start SHOWING them!

Student Ministry

So it's Wednesday about 6:05pm and I'm just leaving my apartment. Just showered. Notes in the car seat next to me.

And WHAM!!! It hits me!

I'm not in the main auditorium directing the sound booth through rehearsal, like I usually am every Wednesday from 5:00-6:30. I'm heading down to the student end of the church to hang with the Middle School tonight!!!!! Yeah, I'd known for 2 weeks that I'd get to speak tonight, but it finally hit me on the 2 minute drive to church, I GET TO HANG WITH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TONIGHT!!!!!

Lyndale asked me to speak to last night in a series the Middle School is doing called "Word Jumble." The talk was on Integrity. Here were the main points...

Title: The "I" Word

A Key To Integrity Is Consistency

James 3:9-12 - 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

You have to ask yourself...Does what comes out of my mouth match what I live?

Be aware of that moment when what you said you were going to do and what you are actually going to do collide!

Don't tell me what you say you're gonna do, SHOW ME!

What you live is what you believe and the rest is just talk!

I will be consistent when I live life...
1. With all my heart
2. With all my soul
3. With all my mind
4. With all my strength

Mark 12:28-31 - 28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" 29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'[b] 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c]There is no commandment greater than these."

How to do it?
1. Focus on Jesus for strength, not yourself
2. Get help from friends who care about you and will give you truth

Something to think about: "If all I am is God's then I am God's all the time"

Movie Quote

I saw the movie, "Facing the Giants" a couple of weeks ago. Here's my favorite line in the movie...

"How can you be in love with someone you've never met?"

Love it!

In the movie, the character was asking that in reference to her future child, who she wanted to get pregnant for, but couldn't. I love it b/c it's applicable to more than that type of relationship.

"Gone" by Switchfoot

she told him she'd rather fix her makeup
than try to fix what's going on
but the problem keeps on calling
even with the cellphone gone
she told him that she believes in living
bigger than she's living now
but her world keeps spinning backwards
and upsidedown
don't say so long, and throw yourself wrong
don't spend today away
cuz today will soon be

gone, like yesterday is gone,
like history is
gone, just trying to prove me wrong
and pretend like you're immortal

she said he said live like no tomorrow
every day we borrow
brings us one step closer to the edge (infinity)
where's your treasure, where's your hope
if you get the world and lose your soul
she pretends like she pretends like she's immortal
don't say so long
you're not that far gone
this could be your big chance to makeup
today will soon be

gone, like yeterday is gone,
like history is gone,
the world keeps spinning on,
your going going gone,
like summer break is gone,
like saturday is gone
just trying to prove me wrong
you pretend like your immortal your immortal

we are not infinite
we are not permanent
nothing is immediate
we're so confident
in our accomplishments
look at our decadence

gone, like Frank Sinatra
like Elvis and his mom
like AL Pacino's cash nothing lasts in this life
my highschool dreams are gone
my childhood sweets are gone
life is a day that doesn't last for long

life is more than money
time was never money
time was never cash,
life is still more than girls
life is more than hundred dollar bills
and roto-tom fills
life's more than fame and rock and roll and thrills
all the riches of the kings
end up in wills we got information in the information age
but do we know what life is
outside of our convenient Lexus cages

she said he said live like no tomorrow
every moment that we borrow
brings us closer to the God who's not short of cash
hey Bono i'm glad you asked
life is still worth living, life is still worth living

Such cool lyrics, and the music behing it is just fun.

P Fav

I got to talk to one of my favortie men in our church this week. We had a great conversation and here's the peice that he said, that I want to share...

"Knowledge + Experience = Wisdom"

Then I read this today...

"Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,

for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.

She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
those who lay hold of her will be blessed.

By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;

by his knowledge the deeps were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight;

they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.

Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble;

when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared."

You Cannot Not Communicate

This was probably the coolest thing I learned while at ULL.

If I asked you a question, and you didn't want to communicate back to me, it would be impossible. Yes, you don't have to verbally respond, but you're still communicating with me. You're communicating that you don't want to answer, or that you don't know, or that you're trying to hold in some gas (sorry, haha). The cmcn is obviously NOT always clear, but it IS always there.

When someone gives me the silent treatment, they're not talking, but they're communicating a LOUD AND CLEAR message.

So here's where that leads me... What am I communicating to people that I'm not intending to communicate?

Have you ever liked someone but couldn't hide it, even though you've never said ,"Hey! I like you!"? And no matter what you "didn't say" the other person KNEW that you like them.

Have you ever been real busy and not had a chance to hang out with your best friend, and even though you never said, "I don't want to hang out with you," yet they somehow came to the conclusion that you don't?

When I stepped out of being an intern for Middle School b/c I had to take 21 hours my last semester to graduate, I basically fell off the face of the earth it appeared to the middle school. I never told them that I didn't want to be around them anymore, but I think some of them felt I didn't.

You cannot not communicate. No matter how hard you try. So... what are you communicating?

The Great Divide

Here's the lyrics to Scott Stapp's "The Great Divide." It's kind of one of my life songs, if you know what I mean. The music behind the lyrics is just as good too. Check it out if you can. It's an intense song. And no, this song is not about a girl:)

I have run to the ocean
Through the Horizon
Chased the sun
I've waited for the light to come,
And at times I would give up
You have
Wrapped your loving arms 'round me,
And with your love I'll overcome.
You have
Loved me when I was weak,
You have
Given unselfishly,
Kept me from Falling...Falling
Everywhere but my Knees!

You set me free!
To live my life
You became my reason to survive the great divide
You set me Free!

I've been on Heaven's doorstep,
With the Door open,
One foot inside
I've cried out...God give me answers!
Please hush child I'll tell you why
You have
Loved me when you were weak,
You kept
Giving unselfishly,
Kept you from
Falling...Falling
Everywhere but your Knees!

You set me free!
To live my life
You became my reason to survive the great divide
You set me free!

Oh...our love is beautiful
Oh...oo...oh...Isn't it beautiful?
Times have changed
But you remain
My everything
Our Love is Beautiful
Stood by my side
Helped me survive
My great Divide
Isn't this is beautiful.

You set me free!
To live my life
You became my reason to survive the great divide
You set me free!

Come See A Movie With Us

We're going to see "Facing the Giants" at 7:10 pm at The Grand today 10-15-06. Come hang if you want!

Invest In Others

Our Student Pastor, Lyndale Holloway, had the pulpit this morning. He did great. The thing that I most loved that he said was, "The riskiest investment you can make is in people. And the most rewarding investment you can make is in people." This is SO true!

Isn't it true that the riskiest investment that you can make in the stock market is also possibly the most rewarding? As risky as something is, is as rewarding as it could possibly be.

And so I agree, PEOPLE are the riskiest investment. So then the next question is, "Is it worth it?" Is it worth investing in people, knowing that it's the biggest risk you can take? Is the thought of empowering, encouraging, and enlightening someone worth the risk of being completely rejected by them? Is it?

I'm no different than you. I've been hurt by people, and I can without hesitation say, YES! Absolutely! Why? B/c there's nothing cooler for me than seeing someone encouraged. Seeing them empowered, and seeing them enlightened. NOTHING COOLER!

Listen to his sermon here. It might not be available until Monday 10-16-06.

Christmas Music

So i use iTunes as my music player on my computer. (I highly recommend it!) Well I have pretty much all my music I own in itunes, and that includes my Christmas music. Well I've unchecked most of the Christmas music so that it doesn't play when I put it on random. Well I haven't been able to uncheck all of my Christmas music b/c I've got quite a bit on here. Well every now and then I have to hurry up and change the song b/c I won't listen to Christmas music until it's time. But man!, every time I hear a glimpse of it, it makes me impatient for that time of year! But I'm waiting :) My official start day for Christmas is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Up until then, no lights, no music, no trees, no decorations, nothing! But as soon as that Friday hits, it's GAME ON!

Love It

I was blog surfing b/c i can't fall asleep for some reason (even though I know that tomorrow is the longest day of the week for me) and I got on a pastor named Tony Morgan's blog. I know VERY little about him. Not much more than that he works at a church I like in Indiana called Granger Community Church.

Check out this post. I love it.

Best Friends

I'm helping out with middle school ministry this year. Last night, one of our discussion topics was friendships. I sat in a circle talking with a bunch of middle school guys about their best friends. (That was an enlightening experience on many levels, but that's not the topic of this post.)

At one point I had the opportunity to share a little about my best friend. I had them guess who it was. One of the boys guessed Mark Beeson. He's a very good friend. Another boy guessed Tim Stevens. He's also a very good friend. Then I told the them that my best friend is my wife, Emily. At that point, one of the guys looked at me and asked, "How can your wife be your best friend?"

That's probably the reality of where we find ourselves today, isn't it? It's probably unusual for best friends to get married and stay married. I wonder if our ministry can help impact a change in people's lives so that becomes the norm. That's something I could invest my life in.

Good Pride - Bad Pride

Alright. Is everyone ready to do what we did in my college sunday school class with Dwight Beadle? It was probably the most interesting and fun sunday school class I've ever been in.

Here's what we'd do... He'd split everyone up into groups and then give each group a different question on a similar topic and then ask our group to come up with an answer. Now the questions weren't simple, like "How many times did Peter deny Jesus?" but were questions like, "Can you give evidence of the trinity?" or "What does it mean to be 'in' the world, but not 'of' the world?" And here's where it got even more fun and difficult... All of our answers and claims had to be backed up by Scripture. Which might sound easy at first, but isn't always.

So here's the question I want to throw at all of my blog readers. It's one we wrestled with last night in my Anchor Group (small group). Here's the question...

What's the difference between good pride and bad pride?

It was a fascinateing discussion we had last night and I'm curious of other people's point of view and input.

Here's my friend Chalan Thibodeaux's Blog. He's our Technical Director at East Bayou, and he's a pivotal cog in our media department.

She's Ready To Roll

She's tuned and she's legal!

I had to get a little work on her b/c she hadn't been maintained. The previous owner didn't run her in to the ground, which is good, but it appeared that minimum maintenance was done. I had her at Delta World Tire over the weekend getting things like an oil change and new brakes and some other things. Delta has always done a great job.

I've got my temp license plate and so now I'm driving her and my Expedition will go in the quick quarter probably next week.

A New Relationship In My Life!!!

I know that I usually don't use my blog to talk about this area of my life, but.....

I met someone this morning!!!!!!

She's beautiful, she's fun, and she seems to be real down to earth. We get along SO well and we really just enjoy being around each other. Well, to say the least, I'm very excited!!!!

I even told her that I was about to move to Texas, but she said didn't care. She said that she'd go with me. WOW huh?! She's totally supportive of where I'm headed in my life and wants to be there for me.

And this was all after we just met!

A friend of mine introduced me to her this morning. I can't thank him enough.

Well, we're pretty much already committed to each other after the few hours we spent together this morning. I've got to talk to a few more people and it will be official!!!

I usually don't make these types of decisions without asking my close friends what they think, but I knew when I met her, that this had AMAZING potential!

I'm totally taking a risk here by commiting to her, but I think it's gonna work!

I usually make fun of people who talk about this kind of stuff on their blog, but I just had to get it out!!!!!

Well here she is...

Isn't she gorgeous?! :)

And most importantly... it actually get's good gas mileage!!!! Not 11.5 mpg like I'm getting in my expedition. I just couldn't afford to drive and expedition around DFW. Gas isn't a problem right now for me b/c I live very close to where I work, but at school I'll be driving all over Dallas and I needed something that wasn't going to kill me!The paper work is not done yet, but it should be official by next Wednesday.

Now I just need help coming up with a name for it. Hmmm?

Laugh of The Day - Wedding Kidnappers

A 21-year-old girl's parents were SO against their daughter getting married that they kidnapped her before her wedding and caused her to miss the ceremony.

Oh man! That's hilarious!

Today?

Is it just me or does the weather ROCK today? Yeah the temp could be lower but there's something about the weather today that I REALLY like. Maybe it's b/c I've been in my office all morning and I'd be happy with ANY weather now that I'm at lunch:)

Small Break

I'm out of town again this Monday and Tuesday, so no blogging from me until possibly Thursday b/c Wednesdays are so busy.

Interview With God Roll In

These grpahics were created over a 4 week period. It took us 2 weeks to create the logo, and then another 2 weeks to record the voice overs and design the video.

This was created using Adobe InDesign CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Premire Pro 1.5, and Adobe After Effects 6.5.

I't a real simple video, but I was pleased with the way it came out.
