Speaking of Churches Endorsing Candiates...

At Fellowship, 2 weekends ago, our worship pastor was giving announcements right after Ed finished speaking and he/Dex said, "Now as most of you know, our church doesn't usually support a political candidate, but since the Texas primaries are just a few days away, we wanted to make this announcement..." And then he pointed to the screens and played this....

Pretty funny huh? The next weekend, they played this one...

Churches Cannot Endorse Candidates

I didn't know this. The church I grew up in never did endorse any particular candidate but simply pushed all of its attendees to get out and vote. I just thought it was a decision the church made just to stay neutral.

It turns out, "The tax code bans churches from participating in or intervening in a political campaign. Violations can result in the loss of a church’s tax exempt status."

I read that here.

Hmmm. That's good to know.

"reTHiNK - Is Student Ministry Working?"

reTHiNK - Is Student Ministry Working? is an amazing book about SM (student ministry) I am reading for one of SM classes as SWBTS.

Steve Wright, one of the authors of the book, has been flooded with questions regarding his book and so it looks like InQuest, the publishing company of the book is going to hold a free conference where Steve Wright and others are going to teach about how the two primary institutions that God has established in the Bible, the family and the church, work together in the context of youth ministry.

They contacted me and asked me to promote it on my blog. I'd love to go, but there's no way I have the cash or time to go. But if you're interested, click here.

Seriously?!

Snow (For Real This Time)

I work at a church in Grapevine, TX which is about 35 miles northeast from SWBTS where I live on campus. So it's a little bit colder, but when the 2nd snow storm hit this past week, it poured in Grapevine as compared to it slightly snowing in Fo-W. Here are some pics of the snow at my church.

Snow (Kind Of)

You're know you're from the south if every time it snows you feel obligated to blog about it. Well I'm not ashamed, haha.

It's snowing, but it's not really sticking to the ground. I'll post pics if it does.

(9:00 pm) And now it has hit the ground and stuck... :)

America's Most Sinful Cities

I thought this story by Forbes.com on America's most sinful cities was fascinating. Click here to see it. It judged the nation's most sinful cities based on the 7 deadly sins.
