Here's a video we put together for Youth Ministry Lab 2008. It went down on April 4th and 5th here on campus at SWBTS. It's the 40th anniversary of it. It's basically the largest Student Ministry Conference put on by students in the nation. Here's a taste...
In the video you'll see Jeff Johnson Worship Band (who's song "Ruin Me" I dare you to sing to God. dare you!), Sandstories by Joe Castillo, and Francis Chan who you just need to go download. His speaking kicked my butt. My favorite paraphrase from him that weekend was, "If you were on a desert island and all you had was your Bible, would you have the same views, beliefs, and theology then, as you do now?" In my interpretation, what theology do we have now that is extra-biblical and what beliefs do we have that are so diluted b/c of the thousands of influences we take in? If Jesus really is who He says He is, then why am I so hesitant to really give Him all of my life?
Ouch huh? I know. Me too.
You'll also see shots in there of other things, such as Dr. Johnny Derouen teaching a breakout. You'll see'hear him talking about stats of every 4th generation. Amazing! He's my teacher this semester for Student Ministry Essentials, basically the most impactful class I've taken yet.
Obviously now, there will be a lot more of these to come :) The first pic is a funny one of us. We weren't ready when the pic took. The second one was from April 22. The third one is from downtown FoW (Fort Worth) on our one-year-of-dating anniversary date. I'm definitely marrying up huh?
April 15th will no longer be remembered as Tax Day! It is now April 15th, the day I proposed to the woman I've been praying for!
I proposed to my girlfriend Tory this morning. We met at SWBTS Jan 18, 2007 and have been dating since March 20, 2007. Well as of this morning, she is no longer my girlfriend, but my fiance! Here's the video of the proposal.
Thanks to Dr. Yarnell (my systematic theology professor) for letting me have a few minutes at the end of class to have everyone's help. Thanks for Phillip for taking pics and to Daniel for videoing, and to Kyle for the ring toss.
I also wouldn't be posting this story if it weren't for my Dad and Mom, my brothers, my best friend Justin (who with his family drove all the way to Fort Worth last weekend to be with me as I bought the ring, per our tradition). I wouldn't be here without all of my friends.
Tory I love you and I can't wait to be your husband!
And if not for Jesus, in whom we find true life, we would be hopeless. I hope above all He is honored in Tory's and my life. I pray He uses us to continue to point to and lead people to Him.
Ephesians 1:18 "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling."
John 12:46-47 "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it."
Ben Stein is hosting documentary that comes out this month where he tracks down scholars who have been persecuted — or “expelled” — by the academic community for their support of intelligent design (ID), a research program that flies in the face of Darwinism.
