Hmmm

"As we mature as Christians we should be thinking more and more of others and less and less of self. That is the best gage of maturity in Christ by far."

(not my quote)

Labels:

I would disagree with the quote and say it like this:

"...thinking more and more of others and less and less selfishly..."

What I mean by the distinction is that loving ourselves is not a sin. Acting in selfishness is a sin. Mature Christians are bathed in God's deep and abiding love for others, but they are also washed in God's love for them. Our lives should reflect both, otherwise we look a bit like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

One qualifier is that the Spirit changes the direction of our minds - this is the essence of Christian maturity. So, in saying "we should be thinking," I read it as "the Spirit should be directing our minds".

By the way, whose quote was it?

"straining a gnat" john 3:30 is a sign of maturing like the quoter states. no need to remanufacture what he said. healthy self image is cool, but that's not what talking about.

what is a "wave" exactly?
