Psalm 25

"1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;

2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.

3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.

4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;

5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you are good, O LORD.

8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.

9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.

10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
for those who keep the demands of his covenant.

11 For the sake of your name, O LORD,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD ?
He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.

13 He will spend his days in prosperity,
and his descendants will inherit the land.

14 The LORD confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.

15 My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.

18 Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.

19 See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!

20 Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.

21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
from all their troubles!"

Laugh Of The Day

Danget! I got an email today and now I'm probably going to hell.

So I get this email today from a friend (my friend didn't write it, and he's not the one I'm making fun of here. it's the author I'm making fun of) and it has all these cool pics of this guy's truck who literally airbrushed every inch of his truck with this military/USA/9-11/trade center type theme. Amazing paint job! Really, amazing!

Well what is hilarious is the short paragraph at the end of the email. Here it goes...

"Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
Had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.
Feel honored to serve such a Leader who loves us.
If you believe in God and in Jesus Christ His Son..send this to all on your
Buddy list..if not just ignore..In the Bible, Jesus says..."If you deny me
Before man, I will deny you before my Father in Heaven."
GOD BLESS YOU ALL"

It's a cool paragraph all the way up to, "If you believe in God and Jesus." Then it basically claims that you don't love Jesus if you don't forward this email. So I guess I better forward this email b/c my eternal security is depending on it. At least that's how I'm reading it:)

I'm sure this guy has good intentions with this email, but seriously, come on bro, that's hilarious! I don't remember Romans 10:9 saying, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and spam your buddy list with Christian forwards, then you will be saved." But hey, maybe I'm reading the wrong translation. :)

Thanks Everyone

Really, I want to say thanks to everyone who made my birthday special yesterday. It was a fun and crazy day. Check out how cool it started off. First I got a phone call from one of my good friends Kristin in FL who left a voice mail of her Kindergarten class in Palm Beach, all singing happy birthday to me. It was the by far the COOLEST birthday phone call I've ever gotten in my life! I was blown away. I got to speak at See You At The Pole. I got to do breakfast with my mom, which was a rare opportunity that I LOVED. My co-workers at church were AWESOME! Vo and her creative artwork on the wall outside my office, Andrew and his birthday balloon hat that I proudly wore, Mandie and Graslyn's cards, and the cheesecake party. I got a phone call from Scott where he talked to me for like 10-15 minutes about just random stuff and then said he had to go and said bye, and then said, "WAIT WAIT WAIT! By the way, happy birthday!" Haha! He SO got me. And I got to do lunch with my dad, Ron, Richard, and Andy where we busted up a buffet! Then, Justin took me out for dinner and fed me like a king!

I really felt loved yesterday. Thank you everyone for making it special.

And if you're someone who goes, "Danget, I forgot Sean's birthday. He's gonna think I hate him." No worries. I never tell people it's my birthday and don't care at ALL when people don't remember b/c that is the thing that I'm absolutely worst at, is remembering other people's birthdays! So really, don't sweat it.

SYATP 2006

My boy Sean McGuire, President of Acadiana High School's Students For Christ Club, asked me to share a quick message this morning at See You At The Pole.

It was fun. It was a blast being around students for a chance. It makes me want to leave for seminary today b/c the sooner I get in and out, the sooner I get to do this kind of stuff FULL TIME!!! Can't wait!

Psalm 27

My mom sent this to me this morning. It's really good!

Psalm 27
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evil men advance against me
to devour my flesh, [a]
when my enemies and my foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.

3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.

4 One thing I ask of the LORD,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.

5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.

6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the LORD.

7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD;
be merciful to me and answer me.

8 My heart says of you, "Seek his [b] face!"
Your face, LORD, I will seek.

9 Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
O God my Savior.

10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.

12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing out violence.

13 I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.

If Only I Could Putt Like Him :)

Check out these two vids of my grandfather and I. They were shot with my little Canon Powershot digital camera.

My New Toy

So my old Nano died last friday. So......... I got a new toy in today. Once again, Apple continues to amaze me. I could go on and on about how cool this 8GB iPod Nano is, but you can go to their website and read all that if you want. Click Here for Apple's website

Here's what impressed me the most... I worked at ePuck.com for about 2 years in my sophomore and junior year at ULL. ePuck.com is a website where you can buy hockey gear. So in working there i obviously learned a TON about online stores and shipping and all that stuff. Well with online ordering you have to set a deadline for the latest time of day someone can place an order, and still have that order shipped out the same day. Our official time was 2:30 (i think). So if you placed an order at 2:35pm, technically your order wouldn't ship until the following business day b/c we still had to print out the order, go out into the warehouse, find the items, pack them, label, and get them ready in time for UPS or FedEx to pick them up. Now with one order, yeah, this doesn't take very long, but at ePuck when I was there, we were getting out hundreds of orders in a day and so, a lot of the time we had to stick to that deadline.

Now compared to ePuck.com, Apple.com is GINORMOUS!! (yes, it is a word. at least now it is) And ginormous online stores usually take 2-3 business days to ship an order. So if I place my order on Monday at 9am, they technically don't have to ship that order until Wed or Thursday. And Bestbuy.com does just that. I bought an external hard drive from them 2 weeks ago and paid for 2 day shipping. I didn't get it until 4 days later b/c they said they were "reviewing the order." REVIEWING WHAT!? "OK, read me that address again for the 15,253th time." Come on!!!

Well, I tried to place my order for my new toy early monday morning, so maybe, just maybe it would be shipped by the next day. But, I wasn't able to place my order until almost 3:30pm, and just bit the bullet that i was gonna have to wait a little longer. Well, I get a tracking update at 10pm last night saying that my order had been processed by FedEx and that I had a tracking number. Well, I just figured that they gave me a pre-assigned tracking number, like a lot of companies do.

Well today, I get a small box in at work at 12:30pm. 12:30! Yeah, when I requested overnight shipping with Apple, I got it in 23 hours. No other company that size can compete with that. Nobody!

I know this is way to much text to tell such an irrelevant story, but here's my point. I love good customer service. It's something that I learned from Kevin Marcellison at ePuck, and it's just great to see such a large company like Apple show us that, yeah we may be ginormous, but we're gonna take care of our customers. Props to them!

Summer Blockbusters

We did a series called Summer Blockbusters where our pastor tied movies that were coming out this summer to Old Testament stories. Here's a roll in we used for the week we did Cars.

Only about the first 10 seconds of the video did we create. The rest is obviously Pixar and Disney. I have no clue what software they used. We used Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe After Effects 6.5.

Is There Anything More Powerful?

Is there anything more powerful than love?

Really, is there? I haven't found anything yet.

I'm continually amazed at what it drives people to do. Love will make people endure things they normally wouldn't, do things they normally wouldn't, think ways that they've never thought before, and feel things they've never felt before.

It's just cool to think about. Our Creator is brilliant. The most powerful thing that humans are capable of is something we can't feel with our hands or see with our eyes. We can see and touch the effects of love, but I've never held love in my hand. I've never taken a picture of it.

But our Creator put something this powerful in ALL of us!

Why?!

I heard someone say that the glory of God is man fully. Is there anything like love that make us feel fully alive?

Heavenly Father,

I hesitate to tell you "I love you" only b/c when I say and it and You say it, they are worlds apart in what comes with it and the genuineness behind it. But Father, I love You as best as I know how. I'm a mess and my love is unworthy, but it's Yours. To try and fathom the extent of Your love is impossible. To give up what You loved most so that we could be with You is AMAZING! This doesn't begin to cover it, but thank you Father. I want to thank You with my life.

Thank you for giving me the capacity to love others. Help me be a good steward of what you've put in my heart. Use it to bring honor to You! Break my heart and keep it chasing after You.

I love You

And this was taken at 2:00pm.

Hope Roll In

Here's another roll in we did for a series called Hope.

Created with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe After Effects 6.5.

Lose It Roll In

This is a 45 second video we used in our services at East Bayou to transition from music to the sermon. There are about 10-12 people on stage for music and instead of the crowd watching everyone walk off and our pastor walk on - instaed of that dead-air time - we go black with our lights and play this roll in (also called a bumper or intro video).

It was made with Adobe After Effects 6.0.

How To Put Videos On Your Blog

Since more and more of you are blogging now (which I like) I wanted to share the few tips that I do know. Here's how to put vids on your blog.

Click here

Log in, or create a log in if you don't already have one. It's free.

Upload your video

After it's done loading you'll be brought to a page where you can click "Embed this video on your website or blog"

Copy and paste the link it gives you into your post and voalla! (sp?)

Now you can show people videos on your blog rather than giving them a link to another page. For example, here's the Tiger Woods video I made reference to in a previous post. Now instead of just giving you a pic of it, I can actually show it it to you.

Blue Pill or Red Pill?

Morpheus: I imagine that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole?

Neo: You could say that.

Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he's expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?

Neo: No.

Morpheus: Why not?

Neo: 'Cause I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.

Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know, you can't explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there. Like a splinter in your mind -- driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Neo: The Matrix?

Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?
(Neo nods his head.)

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church or when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind. (long pause, sighs) Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.
(In his left hand, Morpheus shows a blue pill.)

Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. (a red pill is shown in his other hand) You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause; Neo begins to reach for the red pill) Remember -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.
(Neo takes the red pill and swallows it with a glass of water)

I love this scene! How true is it compared to what we learn after we decide to follow Jesus?

The Rabbit Hole Is Deep

This is a phrase that I use to explain media to people who aren't familiar with what it takes to create videos and graphics, and to explain what is possible. What it takes are simple, but not everyone's got them-time, money, creativity. "What is possible?" is an easy question to answer... Anything. You've all seen it with your own eyes. "Finding Nemo", "Cars", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Jurassic Park" for goodness sake had it. They were one of the first movies to show just how much CGI(computer graphic imaging) could bring a movie to life. There is rarely a movie that doesn't use CGI. Even ones that you think don't use it, ACTUALLY do. Here's an example of ways that they use it today.

The movie Jarhead(not a movie I recommend), with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Fox, yeah they used CGI I'm sure for some of the ware scenes, but guess what else they used it for.... to digitally remove the tattoo that Jamie Fox had while shooting. Jamie Fox has a shaved head in the movie. Well Jamie also has a visible tattoo on his head. They wanted it to been seen while they were shooting the movie, but the producers later made the decision, after the shooting was done, that it was too much for his character. So, they had it digitally removed.

Look at The Matrix Trilogy. Impossible with out CGI, and absolutely amazing with. There are movies that I go to see just b/c of the CGI. Speaking of the Matrix, that's where I snagged "The rabbit hole is deep" from. I'll post the script from the scene I'm talking about in another post b/c I want to discuss it in a another way. But the ideas is, that you can never guess how far and how deep the media hole goes.

Here's another piece of media I saw that both inspired me and made me want to quit my job at the same time. It's not as fancy as a pirate ship coming up out of the water, but whoever made this commercial is GOOD! Click here to watch a high resolution (good quality) version of it or you can just click play below. If you're into media, then you know what I'm talking about.

Crazy Week To Continue

This week has been nuts! It's a set change week which means we have all new media launching this Sunday for our new series called "Interview With God." This means that we have new countdowns, new roll ins, new motion backs, new handouts, new logos. New everything! To create all these graphics, we've ("we" being the media department) have been working on them for almost 4 weeks. And this Sunday is when we launch the new series.

So.... it's been a busy week. Then... this weekend will be just as busy with vocal team auditions, college football, friends in town, group running, and church. It's gotten so busy that I've actually scheduled my down/fun time. I've calendered it and I have reminders set to say "SEAN!!!! Go play!!!!" Haha. Then.... I'm out of town next week. Yep, I'm taking my summer vacation that I never took.

So.... don't get your hopes up for a lot of blogging :) But do check out my friend's blogs to your right on this page.

Prayer Request

I have a prayer request. I've got a need that I need filled. It's kind of tough to talk about on a blog but I need as many prayers as I can. It's very important and it's something that I'm very vulnerable about. A lot of you know that I've been struggling with this for quite a few months now and that this can be a very tough tim in my life. This issue not only effects me, but a lot of other people around me, and around the nation. It's not something I've ever shared about on my blog b/c I don't want people to get the wrong impression about me. If you're reading this, can pause and stop where you're at and get on your knees and pray that....... TENNESSEE WHOOPS 'DEM GATORS THIS WEEKEND?!!!!

Crescent Connection Road Race

Saturday's race was SO amazing! We had a blast. The weather was perfect. The sunset was sweet, right over the skyline of New Orleans. The route was over the Crescent City Connection Bridge downtown (pic below) that crosses the Mississippi River right near the convention center. It was perfect. We started around 6:30 pm and the thing that I didn't expect and wasn't used to was the incline and decline of the bridge. 3 of the 4 miles were on an incline or decline. And most people think, oh well a decline is easy to run on. Only the incline is what is tough. But I learned years ago through EBAG (East Bayou Adventure Group) that a lot of time, the decline can be harder to run on than the incline. And it wasn't too severe of an incline and decline b/c it was over 3 miles, so it didn't knock a ton of time off my pace, but it wasn't definitely different than the terrain I'm used to running on in River Ranch.

We arrived in New Orleans for lunch, went to Cafe East which was a Chinese, upper-scale joint. None of us really knew what to not eat. We all new that pasta was the thing to eat before a race or game, but we were at a Chinese restaurant, we were debating what NOT to eat. And both my brother Michael and I, after the race said, yeah we ate the wrong thing. Haha. Lunch was great, but don't eat Chinese the day of a race. Haha.

After lunch, my brother (who's lived in N.O. for I think over 4 years now) drove us around and showed us all the damage from Hurricane Katrina. Amazing. I was in N.O. about 4 weeks after Katrina and it really hit home seeing it yourself. Yeah you see it on the news and you see the pics, but there is nothing like standing on the mud-covered street looking at house after house after house after house that is just ruined. Cars flipped over. Water lines on houses up to 15 feet off the ground. AND, it's been a year and there is still a TON of cleanup left. I could be WAY off, but just from looking at what I saw, it looked like less than %25 of N.O. is back up and functioning.

After the tour, we crashed at my brother's house and then went to the race. I never heard an official count, but there had to be over 300 people there. My game plan was to just run it. Yeah, push it as hard as you can, but I wasn't shooting to get in the "top whatever." I wanted to just set a good pace from the get-go and maintain it all the way through, and then push it hard the last half mile. And that's pretty much how it went.

Here's my splits:
Mile 1 – 7:05
Mile 2 - 7:59
Mile 3 - 7:53
Mile 4 - 6:58
Total - 29:56

We didn't hang long after the race b/c we had a 2-hour drive ahead. I don't have a clue what place I came in. There had to be at least 20-30 people in front of me. It's always humbling when the guy who looks to be in at least his 60s passes you up a mile into the race and you never catch him. And I was forewarned by a couple to make sure I didn’t over-push at the beginning b/c people always take off from the finish line and end up having to stop b/c they didn’t pace themselves. There were a few people that I passed that did that, but not many. I tried mainly to just enjoy the run and treat like it was an ordinary run like I’d just left my apartment and run through river ranch. I think I had a smile on my face for about half the race. I was just enjoying the sunset and keeping my pace.

And props to my brother for running. He’d just started running in the last couple of weeks and most people wouldn’t touch a 4-mile race being new to running. He didn’t hesitate to do it, and he finished well. Being an amazing runner was irrelevant, it was just fun hanging with everyone and being out there. I’ll post in the future when there is another race wether in Lafayette, or close to it. Just going out and being out there is a blast!

My New Favorite Meal

Lafayette Grub

I know I'm leaving soon but I wanted to do this anyway. I'm gonna start posting new places to eat that I've been to. Let me know of suggestions and I'll check 'em out and post about them.

Today's was Cafe Lola. It was probably a couple months ago that Drew took me here for lunch, well today my pops and I were figuring out where to eat lunch and I pitched this place at him and so we went. I had the Lola burger which was a 1/3 lb burger with provolone(sp?) cheese, mushrooms and bell peppers. It was awesome! Check it out. It's down town near Lafayette General Hospital. Stop Messing With Me

Music is crazy! One song can change your mood QUICK! I'd love to do an experiment. Here's my hypothesis. I bet that with the right song, I could convince anyone to do just about anything! OK maybe not anything:) But i'm continually amazed at how powerful music is. It can, in one verse, take you to the depths of hell, or make you forget your worst problems and think life is golden! And then for every song that puts me in a good mood or inspires me to keep moving forward, there's about 50 that make you want to give up.

Has anything really changed? NO! IT WAS JUST A SONG!

Right?

I HATED That Sermon

Rob Bell once said that he doesn't want people to come up to him after one of his sermons and say, "That was a great sermon!" He wants people to come up to him and say, "I HATED that sermon! I hated it b/c it was tough to sit through and listen to b/c you exposed some junk in my life."

Here's a sermon by Andy Stanley that I HATED. It's a sermon about jealousy that addresses it like I ber you've never heard before. It's about 35 minutes long. Click here and then look for the sermon on 5-7-06 titled, "That Hideous Thing." It's so powerful.

Why Do You Like Tennessee So Much?

Anytime I start talking about UT football people usually stop me and ask that question.

Here's why I support The Big Orange:

1. I have orange hair! Who else am I gonna cheer for? UT and I were destined to be together....... Forever!!!! (cue the slow cheesy music and disco ball)

2. I graduated from the Univeristy of Louisiana at Lafayette. Do i need to dilvulge into how good they aren't? I want a team that I can actually cheer for:) I'm not trying to be mean but there's more excitement on the weather channel than a ULL football game. (OK, now maybe that was a little mean, haha.)

3. And finally (the real reason), my dad was born and raised in Tennessee and so he's always been a big fan. So, I grew up watching the games with him. Next to Christmas, football season is my favorite season of the year b/c there's nothing cooler than looking forward to Saturdays, hanging with him watching The Vols. So much fun! (unless they have a bad season. umhum, 2005? I've deleted it from my mind)

You Ready?

And today it begins...

The University of Tennessee's opening footbal game of the 06/07 season is today at home against #9 California. We're ranked in the mid-20's at best, and in some poles, not even ranked at all. I have my hopes set high as always, so if you see me moping(sp?) around church on Sundays, it's probably b/c we lost the day before:)
